What is the difference between Labor and birth support, a birth keeper and a doula?
Short Answer, nothing.
They all have similar intentions.
The term doula originates from the ancient Greek word doulē, meaning "a woman who serves", “slave”. Meaning someone who stays with a birthing person, and cares for them for an extended period of time. Which I do.
A birth keeper maintains control of the atmosphere and your predetermined goals and birth preferences.
Labor and birth support is what it sounds like: continuous physical, emotional, educated support from outside of your direct medical care team.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.
Payment plans and scholarships available.
What makes you different?
I do not “charge” for each time we interact or meetup. I offer a minimum of 6 in person encounters.
Each prenatal and Postpartum visit includes bodywork for you and your partner or main support person.
Multi-disciplinary postpartum retreats available.
Will you see me naked?
That is ultimately up to you. Labor is innately intimate, raw, and wet.
While I anticipate working with your physical body and exposed skin, it will always be with intention and professionalism
Where will you support me?
In your home.
In your birth center.
In your hospital.
In any combination of the three.
In your car on the side of the road.
In the Operating Room.
I follow you.
Our Process
How do you choose a doula?
Every birth is different, as is every doula you will encounter. You want someone who sees the bigger picture and the smallest detail in the room. You want someone who you can cry, laugh, poop, sweat and bleed in front of. Someone who treats everyone and everybody with dignity and respect. someone who can run on infinite amounts of caffeine. Someone who can speak up on your behalf, and someone who can be silent to watch you unfold. A Doula isn’t an easy person to choose. I’m honored you’re here.
You’re past due for you.
Alex is ready to provide the attention, care, and expertise you deserve.
